Austin-based Raina Rose’s dirt and honey vocals and biting honest lyrics have won her acclaim as a 2007 Kerrville New Folk Finalist, and honorable mention at the Telluride Troubadour Contest. She has appeared at High Sierra Music
Festival in Quincy, CA, in ’06, ’07 and ’09 and the Oregon Country Fair in ?09. Maintaining a rigorous tour schedule of more than 200 shows per year since 2007, Rose is touring this summer to support her sixth studio release, When May Came.
Rose is accompanied by Trevor Smith (banjo) and Andrew Pressman (upright bass), and is collaborating with NYC-base singer/songwriter, Anthony DaCosta, on this tour.

SpiritFarm performs primarily original music that may be best described as “intimate, slightly irreverent, jazzy pop and pop/folk.” With two singer/songwriters backed up with acoustic guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, electric and acoustic violin and harmonica, SpiritFarm has the flexibility to create and perform music in a variety of genres. Their first CD ‘Live Sessions’ was released in 2001. Their second CD, ‘Perils of Love’ was released in the spring of 2007.

Blues guitarist Pete Herzog of Trail will debut his second album, a blues opera titled “Steel Guitar,” Friday, July 9, at Guitar Warehouse, 1103 N. Riverside Ave., Medford.

Herzog’s one-man show will spotlight about 20 of original songs that link the story of a guitar and some of the people who have played it with a love story and a story about a search for happiness.

“The connecting element is the guitar as it changes hands,” Herzog states on his website. “I … think about vintage instruments I have played and have wondered at their history, and if all those who had played them before me had colored their sound in some way.”

Herzog’s style is influenced by the blues traditions of Robert Johnson and Mississippi John Hurt, along with the folk styles of songwriters such as Bob Dylan and Greg Brown. He’s also inspired by Blind Willie Johnson, a musician who combined blues with spirituals.

“Steel Guitar” will run for about an hour and 45 minutes with an intermission.

Herzog’s 2008 album, “Homestyle,” is a collection of down-home blues highlighted by the guitarist’s flat-picking and slide style.
